What are the eSIM activation methods?

The most common method of eSIM activation is to scan a QR code, which direct the device to connect with an external eSIM Server. Additionally, there are four more eSIM activation options to be aware of.

1. EID Push

With EID push, an eSIM profile can be pushed to the device via the EID number and the user can click to install. This method requires the sender to know the device EID in advance.

    2. IN-App Provisioning

With In-App Provisioning, mobile app users can click a link to start the eSIM install process without need for QR code. (Apple Universal Link now works the same, while Android doesn’t support it now, In-APP provisioning for Android could be available via SDK with in-house RSP configuration work). Read more about In-App Provisioning.

    3. Apple Universal Link

With Apple Universal Link, an eSIM profile can be downloaded by clicking the URL from SMS/Email. Read the full post.

    4. Manually entering SM-DP+ and AC

Users can manually enter the SM-DP+ address / LPA server and Activation Code (AC) to start the eSIM activation.
