What are nonhkip plans

Table of contents

In our inventory we have several plans designated with “nonhkip”.

nonhkip is short for Non Hong Kong IP. This designation refers to the exit or breakout traffic of the eSIM. nonhkip tag means the eSIM is not using Hong Kong as the breakout country.

Why is this needed? #

Hong Kong has multiple geo-restrictions in place for it’s internet traffic and thus use of apps like Tik-Tok, Facebook and other application may face blockage when using and eSIM with a Hong Kong breakout or exit.

This means if you would like to avoid these geo-restrictions you would be advised to use a plan with the nonhkip designation. nonhkip plans are usually more expensive than the Hong Kong exit version so you will need to decide on the value of the offer.

Android TikTok issues?

In addition to the IP address, Android TikTok also detects the SIM/eSIM’s region, since this eSIM is from China Mobile Hong Kong, so you won’t be able to use TikTok. Based on our experience, users can access TikTok without issues as long as their device has an eSIM or physical SIM from regions outside Mainland China and Hong Kong.

(kind reminder for your users: “TikTok web version works, but the App requires the user’s phone to have an active physical SIM card (non-Hong Kong/non-China) enabled in the device.”)
